Question 5

Facilitator: How would I like to be taught, so at the moment we get talked to in class sometimes, or sometimes we do project works, so how I like to be taught, how do I enjoy learning?

Response: I enjoy really independent work, I think having someone hovering over you and going, ‘you’re doing that wrong’ is too structured, is not really that great. If you’re independent (especially in secondary school) if you get set a task, I think it will prepare you for later on in life, when there’s not really going to be some one to say, your boss isn’t going to say to you, ‘you’re not doing that right – start again.’ If you do it wrong you’re going o get a few strikes and you’re out.

Response: I remember once we did in year 9 this test, and you could find out what kind of learner you were. Like an audio learner, a visual learner, a kinesthetic learner, all of that kind of thing. And in our class there were so many different results. If there is a teacher who is an audio learner they’re most likely to teach their classes in a way an audio learner would like to be taught. But then there are those visual learners that aren’t getting the kind of things that they need, and that they prefer to learn with. So I suppose that goes back to the whole personalised learning thing.
